In a class of their own: Communication for Social Change Masterclass held on St Lucia campus

HDR candidates and early career academic staff interested in Communication for Social Change participated in a Masterclass in CSC held at UQ's St Lucia campus on Tuesday 13th August 2024. The half-day interactive workshops included presentations by George Watson Visiting Fellow Professor, Vinod Pavarala, and Associate Professor Pradip Thomas, while Associate Professor Elske van de Fliert led the twelve participants in practical workshop activities.

 

The stated objectives of the Masterclass were to:

  • Foster a critical awareness of the researcher’s role and the ethical implications of research in social change contexts.
  • Enhance participants’ skills to conduct research that critically examines communication processes and their impact on social change.

 

For the participants, there was the opportunity to not only hear from experts in the CSC field, but to engage with peers from the growing CSC community at UQ. Amongst the participants were individuals with extensive practice/ academic experience in a range of countries including Australia, India, Indonesia, and Kenya. 

 

Centre for Communication for Social Change (CfCSC) Affiliates and UQ School of Communication and Arts Staff in attendance included Associate Professor Elske van de Fliert (Centre Director), Associate Professor Pradip Thomas, Dr Doreen Busolo, Dr Renée Mickelburgh, and Dr Kylie Navuku. HDR candidates affiliated with CfCSC included Minh Chanh DangJodie MartireMoh Faidol JuddiLisa Lindawati, and Snezana (Nena) Brodjonegoro.
