A new work edited by affiliates from the Centre for Communication and Social Change (CfCSC) and staff from the UQ School of Communication and Arts staff has been published this year. Professor Shuang Liu and Associate Professor Levi Obijiofor, with Professor Adam Komisarof (Keio University, Japan) and Professor Zhu Hua (University College London, UK) have edited The Sage Handbook of Intercultural Communication, which includes 35 chapters. Among these are contributions written by Professor Liu and Associate Professor Obijiofor, as well as by CfCSC affiliates such as Dr Elena Block and others associated with the Centre during their time as PhD candidates (Dr Shailendra B. Singh and Dr Mairead MacKinnon).
Chapters include:
- “Internationalisation of higher education across cultures” (Levi Obijiofor)
- “Ageing in a foreign land and cultural change in family care” (Shuang Liu)
- “Media’s impact on refugee perspectives of belonging in Australia” (Mairead MacKinnon)
- “Sustaining journalism in uncertain times in the small and micro media systems of the Pacific Islands” (Shailendra Singh)
- “Populist communication strategies in intergroup relations” (Elena Block)
Among the endorsements on the publisher’s website is a statement by renowned Communication for Social Change scholar, Silvio R. Waisbord (Professor at the School of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University):
Liu, Komisarof, Hua and Obijiofor have edited a comprehensive, up-to-date volume on the genealogy and contemporary trends in intercultural communication scholarship. They have assembled a stellar line-up of contributors from around the world whose chapters demonstrate the thematic richness and the analytical vibrancy of the field. The book is packed with a remarkable diversity of research topics and questions. A must-read book for scholars and students. (source: Sage website)
