Research Interests:

  • Climate change communication
  • Youth and agriculture
  • Information and communications technology for development (ICT4D)

Qualifications:

Jaime holds a Bachelor degree in Development Communication from the University of the Philippines Los Baños and Master degree in Communication and Social Change from The University of Queensland.

Current Research Topic: Understanding decision making processes of rice farmers in the face of climate change

Jaime’s research responds to the gap in climate change literature on vulnerable groups in the agriculture sector. The study aims to explore climate change discourses and adaptive behaviours in rice growing areas in the Philippines. The research has three main objectives: (i) to explore the prevailing discourses on climate change and climate-smart agriculture (CSA) among key stakeholders; (ii) to explain how these discourses affect the farming community’s response to CSA interventions of the government; and (iii) to develop a framework for stakeholder engagement on CSA for rice-farming communities aimed at enhancing farmers’ adaptive capacities to climate change.
