Researcher biography

Zhenyu Mei is a HDR student in the School of Communication and Arts at The University of Queensland. His master’s thesis, “The Triumph of Non-State Actors: Digital Diplomacy and Nation Branding in YouTube’s “China Travel” Videos Before and After China’s Visa-Free Policy”, proposed a framework for digital diplomacy and nation branding through social media, where non-state actors break through the long-standing image of othered nations. His PhD research will focus on China’s local practices and international image in hybrid environmental governance through a  large-scale computational analysis.
