Researcher biography

Fitrah is a PhD candidate at the School of Communication and Arts (UQ), focusing on power and communication in a community-based health program in Indonesia. Using a Communication for Social Change (CSC) lens, her research examines power dynamics within a government-led program, exploring the potential of community health workers to act as catalysts for change. This research contributes to discussions on the role of community health workers in policy change, a pressing issue in many developing countries.

With over 10 years experience as a lecturer, Fitrah specialises in research and community service projects that empower rural communities, particularly in the health context. She has collaborated extensively with diverse communities to address health disparities and enhance resilience through participatory approaches. Fitrah has published several journal articles and authored a book, with her work primarily focusing on health equity and rural community empowerment. She is passionate about driving positive social change by working directly with communities and promoting sustainable health solutions.
