Researcher biography
Oluwapelumi Oginni is a doctoral researcher at the School of Communication and Arts, University of Queensland (UQ). Her thesis centres on examining media representations of conflict in West Africa, focusing on the application of peace journalism principles. Her research interests are rooted in investigating the media's impact on conflict dynamics, particularly in regions often under-represented in global scholarship, aiming to contribute to comparative studies in the field.
With deep-rooted experience in the media industry, she serve as a project and research officer for the Conflict, Security, and Human Rights Project at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), a leading media development organisation operating across West Africa. Over the years, she has successfully coordinated and implemented various internationally funded projects, which have built the capacity of over 500 journalists, 100 researchers, and 80 civil society practitioners across West African countries. These efforts have resulted in hundreds of research reports, policy briefs, and advocacy campaigns, significantly advancing independent media in the region. Working with a team of eight professionals on the Development Practice Programme, she has gained hands-on experience in multiple development sectors, contributing to the broader impact of independent media across West Africa.
