Researcher biography

Dr Nurul Hilmiati is an agricultural systems researcher with professional experience at the Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (Balitbangtan) – BPTP West Nusa Tenggara and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Dr Hilmiati is currently a lecturer at Mataram University in the socio-economics laboratory of the Faculty of Animal Science. Her research focuses on translating scientific research into locally adapted solutions that respond to the ecological, social, and economic realities of rural communities. Central to her work are processes toward farmer empowerment and the enhancement of smallholder livelihoods. This includes participatory approaches that position farmers as active collaborators in developing and testing innovations, thereby improving farmers knowledge, critical skills and decision-making capacity.
