The Centre for Communication and Social Change: Advocacy and Public Good theme group invites you to attend a Workshop and Panel: AI for Public Good: Shaping Communication, Pedagogy, and Public Dialogue.

Panel: You Had Me at AI – Transforming the pedagogy of communication and storytelling  (open to all)

Time: 11am-12:30pm

Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the way university educators in the humanities and social sciences teach. From automated news reports to personalized media campaigns through to multimedia, film and TV and other creative work, AI is influencing how stories are told, how communication campaigns unfold and how messages reach their audiences. This panel considers: how can universities equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in an AI-driven world, while maintaining ethical standards, creative integrity and critical thinking skills?

Masterclass: Public discourse arena in Public Interest and AI (HDRs and post graduate students only)

Time: 1pm-3:30pm

An afternoon masterclass workshop will follow on from the morning panel discussion (after lunch). HDR and other post graduate students will work with academics from the Centre for Social Change’s Advocacy and Public Good research stream to workshop the topic ‘Public Interest and AI’. This masterclass will employ a concept used successfully in COMU3015 in which students run a ‘public discourse arena’ (Cefaï, 2016; 2018; Heath & Waymer, 2018) to debate an issue of public interest and importance. In this student-run arena, HDR and other post graduate students (numbers permitting) will be given a topic to workshop and debate: Public Interest and AI. Arenas are places of action, providing the opportunity for public issues to be aired and for publics to work individually or collectively to argue different interests and ideas (Johnston & Gulliver, 2022).

A pizza lunch will be provided ONLY to those staying for the masterclass.

Please register to participate - and to make sure you get your pizza!
